Welcome to NSES. I am excited to be involved in your child’s learning this year. As the media specialist at NSES, I enjoy getting to know every student so I can encourage positive reading experiences that will foster a desire to read. Students come to the library weekly as part of the related arts rotation. During this time students learn library, information literacy, and technology skills.
I graduated from Lander University in 2001 with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and in 2003 with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I also graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2012 with a Master’s degree in Library Science. I have been teaching for almost 20 years. In addition to being the NSES's media specialist, I have taught second, third, fourth, and fifth grade. I was Ninety Six Elementary School's 2013-14 Teacher of the Year, Greenwood District 52's 2013-14 Teacher of the Year, and Ninety Six Elementary School's 2022-23 Teacher of the Year.
I am a Ninety Six native and proud Wildcat! I live here now with my husband, Jay, and our children. In our spare time, Jay and I enjoy attending our children's various sporting events and spending time with our grandson, Daniel.
As a teacher-librarian, I:
- Promote the library/media center and reading
- Teach students how to use the library/media center effectively
- Facilitate STEAM activities.
- Manage the student Chromebooks
- Troubleshoot and schedule Chromebook repairs
- Celebrate our students and advertise our school on social media
- Maintain our school's website
The library/media center provides books, reference materials, media, and magazines for class assignments, personal inquiry, and student enjoyment. Each homeroom has a set day/time for library checkout. Students are also allowed to visit the media center as needed and at the teacher’s discretion between checkout days. Students also come to the library/media center during related arts weekly.
