Welcome to NSES. I am excited to be involved in your child’s learning this year. As the media specialist at NSES, I enjoy getting to know every student so I can encourage positive reading experiences that will foster a desire to read. I also teach the STEAM lab. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. In this class, I provide hands-on activities that promote one or more of these disciplines.
I graduated from Lander University in 2001 with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and in 2003 with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I also graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2012 with a Master’s degree in Library Science. I have been teaching for almost 20 years. In addition to being the NSES's media specialist, I have taught second, third, fourth, and fifth grade.
I am a Ninety Six native and proud Wildcat! I live here now with my husband, Jay, and our children.
As a teacher-librarian, I:
- Promote the library/media center and reading
- Teach students how to use the library/media center effectively
- Facilitate the STEAM lab.
- Manage the student Chromebooks
- Troubleshoot and schedule Chromebook repairs
- Celebrate our students and advertise our school on social media
- Maintain our school's website
The library/media center provides books, reference materials, media, and magazines for class assignments, personal inquiry, and student enjoyment. Each homeroom/ELA teacher schedules a set day/time for library checkout. Students are also allowed to visit the media center as needed and at the teacher’s discretion between checkout days. Students also come to the media center for STEAM lab during related arts on a rotating schedule.
